What are Damon Braces?

Damon Braces vs other braces
Other braces use rubber or elastic ligatures to hold the arch still. This mechanism creates friction and pressure, which slows down treatment. Damon instruments eliminate the need for flexible ligatures. While traditional braces are bound with elastic ligatures, which exert pressure causing gradual movement of teeth, Damon braces use a sliding mechanism. As mentioned previously, this approach moves teeth faster, easier and more comfortably for the patient.
How often will I need to visit the orthodontist?
With most traditional braces, arch-wires are attached to brackets with elastic ligatures. Eliminating ligatures, and therefore friction, allows teeth to be displaced with less force applied, and so wearing the braces is less bothersome to the patient.
This means that fewer visits to the orthodontist will be required, and will provide better visibility of results between visits. On average, using Damon braces allows the patient to skip around 8-10 orthodontist visits that would have been required using traditional braces. This is because arch-wires do not need to be adjusted as often.
How long does treatment take with the Damon System?
Treatment with standard braces requires follow-up visits every 4 weeks, while with Damon braces, follow-up visits are less frequent (every 8-10 weeks).
